Our Robinson 44 helicopters have a weight limit of 136kg per seat. For all other helicopter types, the maximum seat weight is 150kg. Please check with our reservations which aircraft is running on the day of the tour. All helicopters have a maximum total weight that varies depending on the helicopter used and the distances flown.
This varies on flight duration and location – if you wish to have doors on or off please speak to our staff at the time of our safety brief and check-in.
Yes they sure can! Infants are classified as 0-1 years and may travel free of charge on their parent’s lap. Please note that only one infant may travel per aircraft. Children are classified as 2-12 years of age inclusive and must be accompanied by an adult.
iPad’s and tablets cannot be taken on a helicopter. Cameras and phones must have a lanyard/wrist strap.
Every passenger with HeliSpirit is given a safety brief by the pilot or ground crew. You will be told what you need to know before you depart and before the flight takes off. If you listen and follow the safety instructions of the pilot then you will be fine.

‘Bungle Bungle Domes Special’ (18 minute flight): The best time to fly is between 7am and 9am as the domes are located on the eastern side of the range and are lit up in the morning sun.
‘The Original Helicopter Flight Over The Bungle Bungle’ (30 minute flight) and ‘Bungle Bungle Long Look’ (42 minute flight): The best time to fly is between 9am and 3pm, the sun is higher in the sky providing light in the gorges. Earlier or later the gorges will be in shadow.
As there is a curfew at the Mitchell Falls Campground for helicopter operation, we are only allowed to depart and land at the campground between the hours of 8.00am and 4.00pm.

We prefer soft luggage only and a maximum of 8kg per person.

A lot of luggage and freight can be carried onboard larger aircraft like the Bell Longranger, but for items simply too bulky to be stowed on-board you may need to request an external load charter. The R44, Jetranger and Longranger are all equipped with cargo hooks and can be rigged with a specialised lifting cable to attach a crate or net, or directly to the load lifting points. Stock panels, fuel drums, radio masts, even boats have all been transported this way – we just need to know where you want to move your equipment from and where you’re going to.
If you have a subject or a particular image you are trying to capture then HeliSpirit can provide you with a quote to get there and back. After this it’s simply a matter of working out how much time you can afford to spend on site. Doors can be taken off most of the helicopters to ensure maximum image quality, and accurate flight planning helps to get you as close as practicable to the magic of first (or last) light.
It is handy to look at the nature of the work that the company does, if they provide services to major corporate clients such as Rio Tinto, Telstra, DFES, Parks and Wildlife etc then the company is required to meet much higher safety standards and are subject to more frequent and detailed audits to ensure that the safety systems are in place and effective. HeliSpirit does provide services to these major corporate and government clients.
HeliSpirit has a very comprehensive Safety Reporting System in place that ensures all incidents that could affect flight safety are reported and investigated by the appropriate person. Where we find a deficiency or a way we can improve our safety we record these findings and ensure that they are managed right through until closure.
HeliSpirit staff are very experienced in operating in our region and every pilot goes through a very detailed training, assessment and approval process. If the risk is too high than pilots are trained to identify this and respond accordingly, we have absolute faith in our pilots assessing these risks and responding to ensure that the safety of passengers and crew is our number one priority.
Every HeliSpirit aircraft is fitted with a satellite based tracking system called Spidertracks, which allows us to determine the exact location, the direction, speed and altitude of every one of our aircraft at any time.
